Chickpeas

Category:

Chickpeas are nutritious edible legumes enjoyed around the world and especially important in Indian cuisine. Commonly known as Chana, chickpeas are valued for their combination of plant-based protein, dietary fibre, complex carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.

Botanically known as Cicer arietinum, chickpeas come in several varieties, including the familiar Kabuli chickpeas and smaller Desi chickpeas. They can be cooked whole, ground into flour, sprouted, roasted, or incorporated into a wide variety of traditional dishes.

Description

Important Note

Chickpeas are nutritious, but eating large quantities suddenly may cause gas or bloating, particularly in people who are not accustomed to high-fibre foods. Increasing portions gradually and drinking adequate fluids can help.

People with chickpea or legume allergies should avoid them. Those following a medically prescribed diet should consider their individual nutritional requirements and portion sizes.
